Synopsis
Ayntab presented a very lively appearance in terms of commerce in the second half of the 17th century. Merchants coming from various cities and regions stayed in the inns within the city and conducted their business in bazaars and markets such as Uzun Çarşı, Arasta, and Kalealtı. The textiles manufactured in the city were particularly appealing to them. In addition, resident merchants traveled to and from distant regions thanks to the commercial networks they established. In this study, the Ayntab kadı court records from 1650 to 1700 were examined in order to identify the merchants and their activities, and evaluations were made in light of the available data.
