Synopsis

In recent years, liquefied natural gas (LNG) has grown in importance within the global energy trade. The increased transportability of natural gas achieved through liquefaction makes LNG a vital energy supply option for countries, particularly those located far from traditional sources. From a national perspective, LNG is becoming an increasingly important source of safe, economical and sustainable energy. Both developed and developing countries use LNG as a strategic tool to enhance energy security, reduce import dependency and achieve environmental goals. In this context, this research reveals that analysing country clusters in LNG exports is crucial for understanding global energy dynamics. An in-depth analysis of LNG trade examining countries' trade relations, energy supply security and economic interactions fills an important gap in literature. In conclusion, the analyses demonstrate that Australia and the US occupy a unique position in the global LNG export market. These findings enable policymakers to better understand the strategic role of LNG in the international energy market, allowing them to make recommendations regarding export strategy diversification and local energy resource evaluation. Furthermore, it could be argued that environmental and economic regulations need to be strengthened to make LNG trade more sustainable.
