Synopsis
The tourism sector holds strategic importance for national economies due to its substantial contributions to economic growth, employment generation, and foreign exchange earnings. Particularly in developing countries, tourism plays a crucial role in reducing foreign trade deficits and promoting regional development. The realization of these contributions, however, depends on the existence of financially robust enterprises capable of sustaining operations under varying economic conditions. Given the sector’s susceptibility to external factors such as seasonality, exchange rate volatility, and macroeconomic uncertainties, the periodic assessment of firms’ financial performance is of vital importance. Accordingly, this study aims to evaluate the financial performance of tourism enterprises listed on Borsa Istanbul over the 2018–2023 period. The empirical findings reveal that the financial performance of these enterprises has exhibited notable variations across the years. In this context, while certain firms have maintained stable financial performance, others have experienced considerable fluctuations over time.
