Synopsis
Autogenic training (AT) is a relaxation and self-suggestion technique that enables individuals to become aware of their physiological processes. Within the context of sport psychology, AT can positively influence athletes’ stress management, focus, anxiety control, and performance-related mental skills. Regular AT practice can support both mental and physical performance by reducing muscle tension and regulating heart rate. This chapter examines the fundamental principles of AT, its role in sport psychology, scientific findings, and practical applications. As a psychophysiological strategy, AT is highlighted as an effective method to enhance athletes’ psychological well-being and optimize performance.
