Synopsis

Global perception management is the process by which international actors control the flow of information through the use of communication tools in order to form and steer public opinion and achieve strategic goals. Global perception management has a profound impact on the mindsets, attitudes and behaviors of individuals and societies. This has a wide range of effects, from global politics to economic relations and political stability. This study examines how the Broader Middle East And North Africa Initiative (MENA) is portrayed in international media outlets. This project, which is one of the global policies of the US, is associated with universal values such as democracy, freedom and human rights, and is presented to the public by USbased newspapers using many perception management strategies. This fictionalized way of news production causes the media to be questioned. This study focuses on this questioning and reveals the strategies applied in the headlines of 5 newspapers with the highest international subscription and readership rates through quantitative and qualitative research methods. The results of the research show how the international media is positioned as both a tool and a strategic actor in global perception management.
