Synopsis
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) represent a major global public health challenge, extending beyond individual health issues to cause severe complications and significant economic burdens. This book chapter addresses trichomoniasis, one of the most prevalent yet frequently neglected curable infections among STIs, and its management. This study examines the asymptomatic course of Trichomonas vaginalis infection, its potential to increase HIV transmission risk, and the obstetric complications it causes during pregnancy, in light of the current literature. The primary focus of the chapter is the critical role of public health nurses in controlling infection. Within this context, the effectiveness of nursing care in screening risk groups, increasing sexual health literacy, early diagnosis, referral for treatment, and partner notification processes is discussed. The findings demonstrate that combating trichomoniasis is not merely a medical process but also a social health indicator. Consequently, it is recommended to include the disease in national monitoring systems, strengthen counseling skills in nursing education, and implement community-based awareness programs supported by digital health applications.
