Synopsis

Depending on the cultural structure of countries, different leadership behaviors emerge. In the cultural characteristics of some countries, there is a tradition of encouraging the participation of individuals by giving everyone a say in order to ensure their participation. Especially in democratic countries, the cultural influence of the social structure is more visible on state administration. In Turkey's governance model, which is within the Latin style governance model; bureaucratic structuring, state intervention, centralization and protectionism are more common. It can be stated that the political system and cultural structure affect the managerial style and behaviors in countries. This study was conducted to examine the leadership behaviors that emerge in societies with different cultural structures and to reveal intercultural leadership styles. Different community members may show different reactions to situations that occur within the framework of the cultural values of societies. When the studies in the field of leadership are examined in the literature, intercultural leadership studies are seen as one of the important research areas in terms of the fact that culture plays a very effective role on the actions and behaviors of the leader. Geert Hofstede, who analyzed value-based cultural dimensions, examined the differences between national cultures with the dimensions of power distance, individualism and collectivism, uncertainty avoidance tendency, masculinity and femininity. There are some differences between Eastern and Western societies in terms of the leadership approach adopted depending on the cultural structure. Studies conducted in Turkey have revealed that paternalistic leadership is a highly prevalent leadership style. The study will contribute to the literature by revealing the effect of cultural values on leadership behaviors and examining cultural differences between countries in terms of leadership and management understanding.
