Özet

External ventricular drainage (EVD) remains indispensable for intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diversion in neurocritical care. Despite advances in catheter design and infection prevention strategies, complication rates remain substantial. This chapter adopts a comprehensive temporal framework—pre-operative risk stratification, intra-operative technical precision, and post-operative surveillance—to structure the discussion of complications. Utilizing contemporary evidence, including recent systematic reviews from 2024 and 2025, we emphasize that protocol-driven, team-based care offers the most reliable path to reducing EVD-related morbidity.
