Theme and Subject Analysis in Archival Studies: Research Trends in Turkey Between 1985-2023
Synopsis
Throughout human history, knowledge has been passed from one generation to another, ensuring the preservation of cultural and intellectual heritage. In ancient times, information was often stored in physical formats such as stone tablets, manuscripts, and printed materials. However, rapid advancements in the fields of information and technology have significantly changed the methods of recording and sharing knowledge. Moving beyond printed materials, the use of electronic media has brought about major developments in access to and dissemination of information. The rapid access provided by electronic publishing has enabled academic and scientific works to reach a broader audience. The widespread adoption of electronic media has reshaped the methods of storing and sharing information, resulting in significant speed and ease in accessing and disseminating knowledge. The term "periodicals" in the title of this thesis specifically refers to the genre of "journals." In this context, the study examines the topic trends of scientific articles related to the field of archival published in journals that are currently active in Turkey, provide electronic access, and have a core publishing focus on Information and Records Management. The aim of this study is to determine the topic trends of scientific publications in these journals related to the field of archival and to reveal current research trends in this area. The study includes a detailed examination of the descriptive elements of peer-reviewed articles. The English abstracts of these publications have been converted into a structured format using text mining techniques and prepared for analysis. The data analysis was conducted using the Python programming language. Topic modeling was performed on the dataset, which was preprocessed through text preprocessing stages. For topic modeling in this study, the BERTopic algorithm was chosen.
