Synopsis

It is important that archival institutions have a program in place where they can assess their current status and progress and disclose these assessments to external stakeholders, and that they participate in a program that is evaluated by an independent mechanism. The purpose of this study is to identify an objective and consistent framework to measure the progress of the Directorate of State Archives (DoSA) and to make the DoSA's current archival services visible within this framework.  For this purpose, DoSA's archival services are provided under ten statements (legal authority and purpose, management authority and administration, financial resources, personnel, physical facilities, creation of archive and manuscript assets, preservation of archives and manuscripts, arrangement and description, access policy and reference services, and social responsibility and public programs) will be discussed. The criteria specified under these headings will play an important and effective role in showing the status of DoSA in a possible international accreditation process and the work that needs to be done. Thus, the accreditation of DoSA and archival services will be opened to discussion. As a result, it will be possible to increase the institutionality of DoSA and the effectiveness of its archival services according to international standards.
