Synopsis

This chapter aimed to define and cover second home tourism, which is a common form of tourism in our country, discuss whether second home activities could be considered as a tourism activity, determine the economic, environmental and socio-cultural effects of the second home sector in the context of tourism, review the literature related to the concepts of foreign migrations and rural restructuring caused by second home activities, and draw conclusions for Turkey based on the findings. For this purpose, the keywords ”second home tourism” and “rural tourism" were put on Google Scholar as search words and a detailed search was carried out in the relevant literature. Accessed resources regarding the definition of second home tourism has been evaluated in terms of the economic, sociocultural and environmental effects of second home tourism. Within the scope of socioeconomic impact, the dimension of displacement of local people in rural areas has also been focused. According to the findings obtained based on the literature review, inferences have been drawsn especially for the context of Turkey. This study considered to be a significant study, especially as it provides valuable findings for our country, where second home tourism is widespread, especially today, when efforts to spread tourism throughout the year are dense.
