Synopsis

Recently, research on edible insects has increased in the field of gastronomy. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) published a statement on edible insects in 2016. With this declaration, he underlined that the world population is increasing and food resources are decreasing due to the effect of global warming, and that alternative food sources may be needed. As a solution proposal, edible insects, which are currently preferred as food in different cultures, were emphasized. Edible insects are almost never preferred as food in Turkey. However, consumption of insects as food is quite common around the world. Especially; Countries such as China, India, Thailand and Mexico lead these countries.

The research aims to determine the course of studies on edible insects and the focus on edible insects. In this context, 310 articles published on the subject of edible insects in the academic literature until December 2022 were accessed and examined in the light of various parameters. The data of the study was accessed from the journals in the ScienceDirect database between 01.01.2022 and 21.12.2022. The data obtained was analyzed using the bibliometric method and turned into statistical data using forms such as tables, graphs and word clouds. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that the issue has started to be addressed in Turkey in recent years, and it is predicted that this issue, which can be considered new, will remain current for a long time. Additionally, it was determined that most research was conducted on attitude, acceptance and image of edible insects. It is expected that the study will contribute to the literature, since no study has been conducted in Turkey to date examining the articles written on edible insects using the bibliometric analysis method.
