Synopsis

Hearing forms the basis of an individual's communication with their environment and plays a critical role in learning, social participation, and cognitive development at every stage of life. Therefore, the regular assessment, protection, and, when necessary, appropriate rehabilitation support of hearing is a shared responsibility across a wide range of expertise, from healthcare professionals to educators, engineers, and policymakers. As the effects of hearing loss on individuals and society become more visible, the implementation of scientifically based, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary hearing screening programs has become more important than ever.

This book, titled A Multidisciplinary Approach to Hearing Screening Programs, brings together the knowledge of expert academics and field professionals from different disciplines to address hearing health from a comprehensive perspective. The content presents up-to-date information on a wide range of topics, from the basic physiology of the hearing system to the classification of hearing loss, from audiological and biomedical device technologies used in screening programs to audiological diagnosis processes, and from rehabilitation approaches to lifelong screening protocols.

Each chapter has been meticulously prepared by authors who are experts in their respective fields, providing a comprehensive reference covering everything from clinical practice to scientific research, and from national and international standards to field-specific recommendations. In this respect, the book contributes simultaneously to many fields such as audiology, audiometry, medicine, ear, nose, and throat, pediatrics, geriatrics, biomedical engineering, child development, special education, and public health.

One of the most important contributions of the work is its emphasis that hearing screening programs are not merely a technical measurement process; they are a multi-layered structure with social, psychological, educational, ethical, and technological dimensions. Thus, the reader will have the opportunity to evaluate the effects of hearing loss on an individual's life from an interdisciplinary perspective and develop intervention strategies on a stronger foundation.

We would like to thank all our authors who selflessly prepared the chapters and contributed their efforts, as well as all the experts who provided support, for making this book possible. We hope that this work will be a valuable scientific resource for students, clinicians, engineers, researchers, and practitioners.

With the belief that it will contribute to increasing awareness of hearing health and strengthening the early diagnosis-early intervention chain, we present our book to the readers' attention.
