Synopsis
The quality of communication processes in the sports environment is a factor that impacts the technical, tactical, and psychological dimensions of athlete performance. In this process, athletes' effective listening skills are considered a crucial communication competency for maintaining healthy coach-athlete interactions, accurately perceiving feedback, and supporting the learning process.
The team communication climate, the coach's leadership qualities, and the language used are among the key environmental variables that influence the development of listening skills. The stress, time pressure, and performance expectations arising from competitive situations can affect athletes' attention and perceptual processes, limiting their listening capacity. Conversely, it can be argued that athletes with improved stress coping skills are able to maintain more balanced communication processes.
The current study concludes that effective listening skills play a crucial role in the sustainability of performance in the sports environment, the quality of the learning process, and the healthy structuring of athlete-coach relationships.
