Synopsis

Plogging is defined as an eco-friendly recreational activity that combines physical activities such as running or brisk walking with the collection of waste in the environment. This activity allows individuals to both support their physical health and integrate environmental responsibility into their daily lives. Participants increase their environmental awareness by directly interacting with the natural environment and engage in volunteer-based behaviors that prioritize social benefit. In Turkey, plogging is implemented through events organized by universities, NGOs, and the private sector, promoting environmental awareness among different segments of society, especially young people.

The importance of plogging from a sustainable tourism perspective lies in its contribution to environmental protection, social participation, and economic sustainability goals in tourist destinations, in addition to individual health and social benefits. This practice protects the natural resources of destinations, reduces environmental impacts, and offers participants the opportunity to develop responsible, experience-oriented tourism practices.

In conclusion, plogging can be considered an innovative practice that combines physical activity and environmental protection awareness from a sustainable tourism perspective. This activity supports the physical and psychological well-being of individuals while also ensuring social and environmental benefits, thereby creating a foundation for high-quality and sustainable development in the fields of nature tourism and ecotourism.
