Synopsis
Everyday life is a sphere in which social reality is constructed. As a result of technological developments, society has begun to change and transform. Ordinary individuals, in order to feel a sense of belonging to society and increase their social interactions, make technological innovations a part of their lives and turn them into routines. The routines of everyday life are also surrounded by rules and regulations originating from dominant groups or structures; Certeau defines these as “strategies.” Although strategies seem to dominate all times, they actually correspond only to the dominant structure that exists in a particular period, and within the continuity of everyday life, they create the impression that they encompass all times (Certeau, 2009:113). This continuity and repeated practices lead to orientations and transformations in individuals’ lives. Therefore, closely examining these practices and understanding them, which are sociologically significant, constitute the main purpose of the research. This study aims to address the topic of digital platforms through Certeau’s approach to the ‘strategies and tactics’ practiced in everyday life. In this context, by using qualitative research methods, data were obtained through in-depth interview techniques regarding university students’ opinions on their attitudes toward accessing digital platforms, and the tactics developed and applied for accessing digital platforms were analyzed in depth. The purpose of this study is to find an answer to the question: What are the factors that direct individuals to alternative free series and movie-watching websites? and to examine this by looking at the usage patterns of university students, who constitute one of the most dynamic segments of society. While looking at the usage patterns of university students, the research was conducted within the framework of Michel De Certeau’s concept of tactics. In the research, data were collected through qualitative research methods using the in-depth interview technique with students from 20 different departments who continue their formal education at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. The in-depth interview sessions were recorded, and the data obtained were examined again within the framework of Michel De Certeau’s concepts of strategies and tactics
