Synopsis

This study examines the factors influencing the selection of accounting package software used by certified financial advisor operating in the province of Erzincan, employing multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. It interprets the findings from a marketing perspective. In the research, the SWARA method was employed to weight the criteria determining software preferences, followed by the CODAS method to compare alternative programs based on their performance scores. The SWARA results indicate that the most critical factor in software selection for accountants is whether the programs are web-based. From a marketing standpoint, this finding suggests that software providers’ shift toward cloud-based solutions enhances user experience, facilitates accessibility, and offers a strategic advantage in brand positioning. According to the CODAS method, the alternative with the highest performance score is A4 (the LOGO software), despite not being web-based. The findings offer valuable insights for both practitioners and software developers on product positioning, creating customer value, directing technology investments, and target market strategies. In this respect, the study brings together accounting information systems and marketing within an integrated point in the selection of packaged software.
