Synopsis

Music education is no longer merely a discipline; it has evolved into a multifaceted domain of inquiry that encompasses everything from neurobiological development to the transmission of cultural memory, from the impact of digitalization on everyday life to the pursuit of pedagogical transformation. In today’s world, musical learning processes are not confined to sound production alone. Still, they are interwoven with concepts such as memory, identity, representation, data, and ethics, repositioning both educators and learners within this complex framework.

This book aims to offer an interdisciplinary perspective on contemporary trends in music education. Spanning topics from neuroscience-informed approaches to creative and holistic learning models, from analytical evaluations of curriculum reform to the pedagogical implications of digital music environments, from the educational potential of oral culture to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, this volume seeks to engage with the expanding boundaries of music education through an academically grounded lens.

Each chapter approaches music education not simply as an activity but as a mode of thinking, conceiving music not merely as the training of sound but as a learning process intricately connected to the existential, cultural, and social dimensions of human life. In this respect, the book offers both theoretical and practical contributions, providing new avenues for reflection for researchers, educators, students, and policymakers in the field.

We hope that this work will contribute to the development of music education as a field that remains grounded in its past while boldly posing questions for the future.
