As a result of this study, 35 books and 12 master’s theses written between 1900 and 2018 that contain data on the Aydın Zeybek dance repertoire were identified. A review of these sources revealed “114” distinct dance names; however, information obtained from experts consulted in the field increased this number to “137”. Of these, literature and field data agreed that “64” dances were Zeybek, there was disagreement regarding “72” dances, and consensus was reached that “1” dance was not a Zeybek. Excluding this single dance, among the remaining “136” dances, “68” were found to have alternative names, “5” were claimed to have been artificially created, there was no agreement on whether “89” were still performed, and consensus existed that “47” were actively performed in Aydın.
