Synopsis

Journals and magazines covering culture, art, and politics, which reveal both the intellectual and ideological structure of the period and society, are periodicals that analyze and evaluate, in an intellectual and academic context, a society's identity and formation, historical accumulation, intellectual currents, theoretical studies in fields such as music, literature, and art, artistic perspectives, the direction and quality of artistic production, current political developments, ideological debates, and many other topics in the intellectual and academic spheres.

The music articles published in Yeni Türk Journal, one of these journals, are important texts that comprehensively reflect the cultural policies of the early Republican era, the quest for musical modernization, and the process of constructing national identity. Mahmut Ragıb Kösemihâl, Sadi Yaver Ataman, and İsmail Hakkı Baltacıoğlu, musicians who played a major role in the cultural movements of the period, wrote articles in many fields such as national music, cultural policies, institutionalization, music education, instrument studies, and folk dances, including evaluations, critiques, studies, and biographies. When considered together, these articles reveal that the musical understanding of the period was oriented towards both the ideal of modernization and the search for national identity. These writings are fundamental references in terms of Turkish musicology and cultural history. The journal, published with the aim of expressing the "new" understanding that emerged with the Republic, was intended to present the musical understanding of the period. In this qualitative study, classification methods were used to identify and determine the year, volume, issue, title, and author information; genre analysis and thematic analysis methods were used to determine the type of text based on its discourse characteristics; and summarization methods were used to present the article in summary form. The journal holds a central position in shaping early Republican musical thought and serves as an indispensable resource for musicology, cultural history, folklore, and educational research in Turkey. This work is significant in its effort to contribute to the creation of sources, addressing the scarcity of academic literature in this field.
