Synopsis

In today's world, where competition has rapidly increased as a result of globalization, it has become crucial for businesses to select and implement the most appropriate competitive strategy for their sector in order to succeed. Competition, in general terms, is defined as the effort of businesses to gain an advantage over each other within the sector in which they operate. Today, maintaining a competitive edge is of paramount importance for modern businesses. Businesses determine competitive strategies that will set them apart and provide them with a competitive advantage, in response to the changes and uncertainties arising in the environment in which they operate. Generic competitive strategies, developed by Porter in 1980, appear to be the most accepted and applied strategies in this field. Accordingly, this chapter aims to examine in detail the generic competitive strategies developed by Porter. Within this framework, the concepts of competition, strategy, and competitive strategy will first be defined, followed by a detailed explanation of Porter's generic competitive strategies. The study will continue with examples of research on Porter's competitive strategies and will conclude with a results section.
