Synopsis
Being born into a world, existing in a world, necessarily requires being performative and being a part of practical life. All beings are, in this sense, beings of space and time. However, within this form of existence, humans are essentially beings who can intervene in their own existence, give it meaning, and define it with an identity. Indeed, thanks to this special possibility of human existence, humans are first singular beings and then individuals. In order to become individuals, humans must transform their meaningful existence into a structural content that will be based on the normative relationships of this structure. At this point, culture comes into view. Through culture, humans become individuals within this meaningful social structure. In this way, the individual's understanding of “self” is formed, and they define their own existence within the cultural and social structure they share with others. This study focuses on the social structure and understanding of culture that enables this special human existence. Based on this, it will be pointed out how culture is valuable for human existence.
