Synopsis
Taekwondo is a combat sport that involves multidimensional physical capacity elements such as high energy requirements, quick reactions, agility, and strength. Athlete nutrition is critically important in terms of maintaining and improving athletic performance and adapting to training loads. The nutritional habits of taekwondo athletes can have a direct impact on power production, endurance, recovery process, and overall performance levels. Therefore, the quantitative examination of the relationship between taekwondo and nutrition is attracting increasing interest in the field of sports science. The aim of this study is to evaluate, using meta-analysis methods, studies published in national and international databases that examine the relationship between nutrition and performance and health indicators in taekwondo athletes. Nine studies that met the inclusion criteria for meta-analysis and reported the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) were included in the study. To assess publication bias, funnel plot, Classic Fail-Safe N, Kendall's Tau, and Egger regression tests were applied, and no evidence of publication bias was found in the results. The random effects model was used to calculate the effect size. The analysis determined that the relationship between taekwondo and nutrition was significant, and the effect size of 0.509 indicated a strong and positive relationship.
