Synopsis

With the process of globalization, sport has transformed into a strategic policy area for states to gain visibility in the international system, strengthen their national image, and expand their areas of international interaction. International sporting achievements increase the global recognition of countries and function as a soft power element that can be effective in diplomatic relations beyond direct political tools. Therefore, sport plays an important role in cultural representation, national prestige, and the production of international brand value today.

Achieving international success is related not so much to short-term performance results, but to long-term planning-based sports policies, scientifically based training approaches, and sustainable athlete development systems. Sports science applications, performance analyses, and institutional governance principles strengthen the position of countries in the international competitive environment by ensuring the continuity of elite athlete development. In this process, training and performance policies make it possible to produce sporting success systematically, rather than relying on chance. Based on all of this, it can be concluded within the scope of this section that sport, beyond producing international success, is a multi-dimensional policy area that enhances the soft power capacity of states and supports their position in the global competitive environment. Therefore, for countries aiming for sustainable success, structuring training and performance policies with a scientific, planned, and long-term perspective is of strategic importance.
