Production Management in the Digital Age: Transformation, Integration, and Sustainability
Synopsis
Digitalization is causing radical changes in production and operations management, as in all areas of business administration. Indeed, today, production management has ceased to be merely an area of activity in which resources are planned and processes are controlled and has been transformed into a strategic management field in which data-driven decision-making mechanisms come to the fore, inter-system integration becomes decisive, and real-time monitoring and intervention capacity gain importance. With this transformation, in the evaluation of production processes, issues such as resilience to disruptions, the reliability of information flow, coordination with supply networks, and the management of environmental impacts have begun to gain importance alongside efficiency and cost. This situation has made it inevitable to address production systems from a more holistic and multidimensional perspective. By addressing the transformation in which production management finds itself from multiple dimensions, this work aims to contribute to the new areas of discussion emerging from the digital age. I hope that the book will be a useful resource for readers interested in the subject, and I extend my thanks to all the chapter authors who contributed to the formation of the book by preparing their chapters while assuming their responsibilities, as well as to the publishing house staff who provided support during the publication process of the book.
