Synopsis

This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on social work practice through field experiences and practice-based examples. Rapid developments in digital technologies have led to significant transformations in social policy and social service delivery, increasing the use of data-driven approaches in planning, implementing, and evaluating social services. In this context, the study discusses the use of artificial intelligence in social work through applications such as decision support systems, chatbots, data analytics tools, training simulations, and generative artificial intelligence platforms. In addition, the opportunities provided by AI-based technologies for individuals with disabilities, vulnerable populations, and different client groups are evaluated.

The study also addresses the relationship between artificial intelligence technologies and the core values of the social work profession. Since social work is grounded in principles such as human rights, social justice, respect for human dignity, and client well-being, issues including algorithmic bias, data privacy, ethical responsibility, and professional decision-making processes must be carefully considered. Therefore, artificial intelligence systems should not be perceived as mechanisms that replace social workers, but rather as supportive tools that assist professional judgment and enhance service effectiveness.

In conclusion, artificial intelligence technologies have the potential to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of social work practice. However, in order for this potential to translate into meaningful social benefit, technological developments must be integrated within an ethical, human-centered, and rights-based framework.
