Synopsis

Organizations employ managers who adopt different management approaches. Even within the same organization, it is possible to observe managers demonstrating diverse managerial styles. Today, while some managers embrace a creative/innovative style and exhibit behaviors aligned with flexibility, learning, and openness to change, others may adopt a status quo–oriented/obedient management approach. This situation indicates that management approaches are not implemented uniformly or independently of organizational context.

Innovative management is generally associated with concepts such as organizational flexibility, continuous learning, and proactive adaptation to change. In contrast, status quo–oriented and obedient management approaches tend to emphasize maintaining organizational order, preserving existing structures, and avoiding uncertainty. However, in practice, the boundaries between these two approaches are not always clearly defined. A manager may demonstrate innovative behaviors under certain conditions while adopting a more cautious and conservative stance in others. Therefore, these approaches should be considered not as mutually exclusive categories but as contextual tendencies that may vary depending on organizational circumstances.

In this study, the relevant literature was examined to discuss the effects of creative/innovative and status quo–oriented/obedient management approaches on organizational structures, decision-making processes, and leadership behaviors. The evaluations conducted reveal that management approaches possess a multidimensional structure that cannot be explained through a single perspective. Managerial practices are shaped through the interaction of various factors, including cultural values, leadership styles, organizational structures, environmental uncertainty, and accumulated organizational experiences. Accordingly, management approaches should be evaluated not through absolute assumptions but within the context of organizational dynamics and environmental conditions. Indeed, management as a phenomenon represents a complex and multifaceted structure that cannot be adequately explained by a single approach. This perspective necessitates examining creative/innovative and status quo–oriented/obedient management approaches not as opposing extremes but as interacting orientations within organizational processes.Managers with different management philosophies work in businesses.
