Synopsis

Banks evaluate performance assessment techniques that may affect their sustainability and future on the basis of scientific approaches. In this context, it is important that the methods used in performance measurement processes produce objective, reliable, and comparable results. Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods provide more reliable results because they reduce the influence of subjective judgments and enable the simultaneous evaluation of multiple criteria. When the performance of banks is analyzed using different analytical techniques, contradictory results may emerge due to structural differences among the methods applied. Therefore, performance evaluation studies conducted for banks should be carried out within a systematic and scientifically grounded framework. In this study, the performances of privately owned and publicly owned banks operating between 2019 and 2023 were evaluated by using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods. Within the scope of the analysis, MOORA (Multi-Objective Optimization by Ratio Analysis), COPRAS (Complex Proportional Assessment), and EDAS (Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution) methods were applied. The weights of the criteria used in the analysis were determined by using the Standard Deviation method in order to ensure an objective evaluation process. A total of 23 performance evaluation criteria reflecting the financial structure and operational efficiency of the banking sector were determined and used in the study. Based on these criteria, comparative performance analyses of the banks were conducted in order to evaluate their financial performance from a multidimensional perspective.
