Synopsis

The Cyprus issue is a historically deep-rooted political conflict stemming from the island's de facto division into two separate political entities since 1974. Today, the island consists of the southern part, dominated by the Republic of Cyprus, which is fully recognized internationally, and the northern part, controlled by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which is only recognized by Turkey. This study examines the dynamics that may emerge in light of various scenarios surrounding developments centered on the Cyprus Problem. The ongoing division between the two communities, the deadlock in the UN's search for a solution, tensions between Turkey and the EU over energy resources, and the continuing effects of the TRNC's status are dragging the search for a solution into an uncertain process. The aim of the study is to analyze current political, economic, and geopolitical developments from the perspective of critical theory and conflict resolution.
