Synopsis
Digital media has become an important tool for conveying local culinary cultures and gastronomic heritage to wider audiences. Cooking programs, in particular, play an effective role in promoting the culinary cultures of destinations. This study aims to examine how Burdur’s culinary culture is represented through cooking programs published in digital media. Within the scope of the research, seven videos of cooking programs filmed in Burdur or focusing on Burdur cuisine were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. During the analysis process, the gastronomic elements highlighted in the videos, the emphasis on tradition, the representation of local products, and promotional discourses were examined. The findings indicate that Burdur cuisine is predominantly represented through certain symbolic products in digital content, while the diversity of the culinary culture and its socio-cultural context are reflected to a limited extent. In addition, although promotional discourses aimed at destination marketing are prominent in the content, some traditional dishes and local practices do not gain sufficient visibility. The study aims to contribute to the literature by evaluating the forms of representation of local culinary culture in digital media and to provide insights for strategies promoting Burdur’s gastronomy.
