Synopsis
This study aims to examine the role and strategic importance of Physical Education and Sport lessons within the context of values education, in line with the fundamental philosophy of the Turkey Century Education Model. The new curriculum approach, which came into effect in 2024, defines education not merely as a cognitive process but as a holistic development of the individual, encompassing the unity of ‘body, mind, heart and spirit’. Within this framework, the Physical Education course emerges as a dynamic field of practice where abstract values are made tangible through physical actions. The study analyses, from an academic perspective, how core values such as justice, patience, responsibility, honesty and respect are internalised within a sporting context. Furthermore, it examines the role of sport as a ‘fortress of resilience’ against the sedentary lifestyle and social isolation brought about by digitalisation. Consequently, the study emphasises the necessity for physical education teachers to assume the role of ‘character architects’—going beyond technical instruction—in the construction of the virtuous human profile envisaged by the Turkey Century Education Model.
