Synopsis
Today's intensifying competition among destinations in the tourism market has brought about the necessity to differentiate and make tourist experiences memorable. Cultural heritage sites, in particular, have the potential to leave deep impressions on visitors through their rich historical accumulation and unique atmosphere. However, in order to transform this potential into destination management and marketing strategies, it is necessary to systematically understand the elements that make visitors' experiences memorable. In this context, the concept of memorable visitor experience in cultural recreation areas holds critical importance for both academic literature and tourism industry practices. The reality that domestic and international visitors may seek different experience elements when visiting cultural heritage sites necessitates destination managers to develop multifaceted strategies that can appeal to both segments. This study examines the elements of memorable visitor experience in cultural recreation areas both conceptually and empirically through the example of Istanbul's Historic Peninsula, comparatively presenting the perspectives of domestic and international visitors.
