Dialysis in Special Patient Groups Principles of Practice
Synopsis
While dialysis is an indispensable treatment method for life-threatening conditions such as chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury, it is not a standardized process that can be applied with the same approach across all patient groups. Dialysis procedures for pediatric patients, elderly individuals, intensive care patients, or those with comorbid systemic diseases require attention, knowledge, and experience that go beyond standard protocols. Today, the growing body of knowledge and technological advancements in nephrology practice have made it necessary to plan treatments in a more individualized and patient-centered manner. In this context, determining the correct treatment strategies for populations defined as “special patient groups” is of critical importance for patient safety and treatment success. This work, titled “Principles of Dialysis Practice in Special Patient Groups,” has been prepared with contributions from experienced academics and clinicians in the field; it serves as a comprehensive resource that integrates theoretical knowledge with clinical practice. The book systematically and clearly addresses the specific needs of different patient groups, the challenges encountered, and current treatment approaches. I believe this work will serve as a guide for all healthcare professionals, particularly dialysis physicians and nurses, and will make valuable contributions to clinical practice.
