Synopsis
This study aims to examine the functions of symbolic design elements used in university logos in terms of institutional belonging. Based on the literature on corporate identity, social identity, and belonging, a conceptual framework is established, and the logos of universities with high academic performance in Turkey, as well as those established after 2007, are evaluated using content analysis. The analysis examines the symbols used in the logos in terms of natural elements, local and cultural elements, monograms, geometric designs, educational and scientific symbols, and professional indicators. The findings show that historical and cultural symbols are used more intensively in established universities, while abstract geometric designs and monograms are more dominant in newly established universities. Furthermore, it is considered that the symbols used in logos can function not only as visual identity elements but also as symbolic tools that can support institutional memory, shared values, and a sense of belonging. The study offers a holistic perspective on the evaluation of university logos within the context of corporate identity and belonging.
