Synopsis
This chapter discusses the role and importance of artificial intelligence in nursing practice. Artificial intelligence is considered an important technology that supports nursing care in clinical decision-making, patient monitoring, care planning, documentation, workload management, patient safety, and quality improvement. In nursing, artificial intelligence applications are developing through clinical decision support systems, machine learning, natural language processing, robotic systems, wearable technologies, remote monitoring tools, and predictive analytics. These applications may help nurses recognize changes in patients' clinical conditions earlier, identify high-risk patients, reduce medication errors, personalize care processes, and spend more time on direct patient care. However, data privacy, algorithmic bias, ethical responsibility, overreliance on technology, concerns about professional autonomy, and the need for education remain important limitations. Artificial intelligence should not be seen as a system that replaces nurses. Rather, it should be positioned as a supportive tool that strengthens nurses' clinical judgment, observation, empathy, and caregiving role. In the future, safe, ethical, and human-centered artificial intelligence applications have the potential to improve the quality of nursing services and contribute to more efficient, individualized, and reliable care delivery.
