Synopsis

Some insect species have attracted the attention of the food industry and consumers in Western societies due to the variety of nutrients they offer and the more environmentally friendly food production compared to traditional animal husbandry. This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of edible insects to humans and nature. As a result of the research, it was determined that insects not only serve as an alternative food source but also have different benefits for humans and nature. Pollination, vermicompost, waste biodegradation and effective biological control have been identified as the benefits of insects for nature. The benefits of insects for humans have been determined as their use in different sectors such as textile, food, health and cultural integration (social structure, belief, language, art, etc.).
