Synopsis

Psychology is a scientific discipline that studies human behavior and mental processes. One of the sub-branches of this field, sports psychology, deals with psychological factors that may affect athletes' performance. Sports can be defined as a set of regular movements performed within certain rules, aiming at the physical and mental development of the individual. In this context, the concept of an athlete can include not only physical competence but also psychological preparation. Some psychological variables that are thought to contribute to success in athletes include mental endurance, motivation, and stress coping skills. It is suggested that such skills can affect the individual's performance under pressure and the adaptation he/she will show in challenging conditions. It is suggested that psychological skill training can contribute to various areas such as balancing anxiety levels, building self-confidence, attention management, and goal setting, in order to support athletes' individual and team performances.
