Synopsis

In the 21st century advances in technology, the power of social media, and differences between generations have led to changes in individuals’ interests and holiday expectations, resulting in an increase in tourism types and bringing special interest tourism to the forefront. In this context, sporting aviation activities have gained an important place in special interest tourism by offering tourists different experiences, both physically and psychologically. Sports aviation types such as paragliding, gliding, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, and motorised paragliding have become attractive options for tourists seeking adventure, adrenaline, interaction with nature, and a sense of freedom. In this section, sports aviation activities are evaluated as tourist products and discussed in the context of special interest tourism. This research, conducted through a literature review, reveals that sports aviation makes significant contributions to the promotion and branding of tourism destinations and accelerates the development of sustainable tourism. The findings from the literature review indicate that sports aviation activities enhance the competitive strength of destinations and support local development. In this context, it is recommended that tourism professionals and managers place greater emphasis on sports aviation activities within the scope of special interest tourism and consider them as a strategic tool in the marketing of destinations.
