Synopsis

This study aims to comprehensively review the academic literature within the rapidly growing and increasingly important field of green sport technologies (GST) using a robust science mapping approach. With escalating global concerns regarding climate change and environmental sustainability, technological solutions aimed at reducing the sport industry's environmental footprint are attracting significant interest. In this context, it is crucial to identify current research trends, key players, and potential future research gaps.

The research analyzed academic publications retrieved from the Scopus database using keywords such as "green sport technology," "sustainable sport innovation," "eco-friendly sports equipment," "environmental technology in sports," and "sport venue sustainability." The collected data was processed using bibliometric methods to identify the most prolific authors, institutions, countries, and journals. Furthermore, keyword co-occurrence analysis, citation networks, and co-authorship networks were generated to visualize thematic clusters, intellectual structures, and collaboration patterns within the literature.

The analyses indicate that research in the GST field has gained momentum in recent years but still requires a more interdisciplinary approach. While topics such as sustainable materials science, energy efficiency, waste management, and smart sport facilities are prominent, there is a clear need for more research in areas like consumer behavior, environmental impact assessment, and policy development. This study offers a valuable framework for researchers and stakeholders working in green sport technologies, aiding them in understanding the existing body of knowledge and guiding future sustainable innovations.
