Synopsis
This chapter explores the effects of functional supports, considered within the scope of alternative approaches to exercise physiology, on physiological processes. In modern training approaches, not only performance enhancement but also multidimensional goals such as accelerating the recovery process, reducing oxidative stress, supporting the immune system, and improving overall health status have gained importance. Functional components such as herbal supplements, adaptogens, polyphenols, probiotics, and micronutrient-based supports are discussed in light of scientific evidence regarding how they can be integrated into the physiological adaptation processes related to exercise. Additionally, the effectiveness, safety, and necessity of personalized application of these supports are emphasized. Planning functional supports based on scientific principles and individual needs offers a significant alternative approach for sustainable and effective applications in exercise physiology.
