Synopsis
This study examines unethical behaviors and violations of ethical values that occur in educational settings by gathering the opinions of prospective teachers. This study contributes to the understanding of ethical issues and violations of values observed in teacher-student and academic-student relationships and provides an important framework for maintaining and developing ethical culture. To this end, unethical behaviors and violated ethical values in education were identified based on the opinions of the participating prospective teachers. Phenomenology was chosen as a qualitative research design to gain an in-depth understanding of the participants' experiences. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed using thematic analysis. Based on the prospective teachers' opinions, the unethical behaviors they encountered in teacher-student and academic-student relationships; the individual tendencies, relational dynamics, and contextual reasons underlying unethical behaviors; the core ethical values violated; the effects of ethical violations on prospective teachers and their responses to these effects; and the individual tendencies, relational dynamics, and contextual elements that contribute to the sustainability of ethical values were identified. The results can guide the monitoring, prevention, and intervention of situations that lead to ethical value violations.
