Synopsis

In this study, the problems experienced by organizations during the digital transformation process were discussed comprehensively and it was aimed to contribute to the correct management of the process by making suggestions specific to the problems. Digital transformation, which has led to radical changes in the way of organizational operations and their management approaches today, is a multi-dimensional approach that requires updating many elements such as processes, managerial skills and people in addition to technological regulations. The meaningful completion of the transformation process depends on all organizational components adapting to technological changes. To ensure this harmony, the problems encountered in the digital transformation process must be conceptually identified and solved by managing correctly, especially within the scope of cost, people, external environment, laws and digital security. In this context, it has been determined that the prominent problems in the digital transformation process are; cost, maturity process, uncertainty of return on investment, maintenance/development/update problems, decrease in productivity during the transition process, technostress, limitations, infrastructure problems, lack of qualifications of employees, resistance to change, social problems, digital divide, standardization, governance problems, lack of legislation/incompatibility, cyber security and data pollution. Organizations, the public, and digital product suppliers have important responsibilities in solving the problems. To solve the problems, the prominent measures taken by organizations are to obtain consultancy services, train their employees, adopt a participatory approach and pay attention to data security. Additionally, organizations need to view digital capital as an investment tool with a high potential return, not as a cost. Suppliers providing the right product to organizations and making the necessary performance-enhancing updates will contribute to the solution of the problems. Public institutions are expected to take measures and develop remedial practices regarding education, legislation, infrastructure, social problems, standardization and data pollution.
