A Holistic Approach to Sports Injuries: Prevention, Psychosocial Effects, and Rehabilitation.
Synopsis
The rehabilitation process in sports injuries is not limited to physical recovery; it also encompasses the athlete’s psychological and social adaptation. This chapter addresses post-injury rehabilitation approaches in conjunction with the process of returning to sport. Literature indicates that individualized, functional, and progressive rehabilitation programs yield more effective outcomes than traditional standardized protocols. The success of rehabilitation depends not only on physical parameters such as pain management, muscle strength recovery, range of motion, balance, and coordination, but also on psychological factors including motivation, self-confidence, and fear of re-injury. Furthermore, the athlete’s communication and social support from coaches, physiotherapists, and family members directly influence the speed and quality of recovery. In conclusion, achieving both physical and psychological readiness is essential for sustainable performance in the return-to-sport phase.
