Synopsis
In sports, motivation and psychological recovery are among the fundamental psychological factors that determine athletes' performance capacity. Motivation refers to the totality of internal and external forces that direct and ensure the continuity of an individual's effort to achieve specific goals. Psychological recovery, on the other hand, is defined as an active process that allows athletes to reestablish cognitive, emotional, and behavioral balance during periods of intense training and competition. A review of the literature reveals that athletes with high motivation recover more quickly from challenges and maintain consistent performance. However, inadequate recovery results in decreased motivation and an increased risk of burnout and loss of performance.
This study, which examines the relationship between psychological recovery and motivation in sports, concludes that the interaction between motivation and psychological recovery is among the factors that determine athletes' performance, strengthen their psychological resilience, and enable long-term success.
