Synopsis
Strength training in soccer is widely implemented to enhance players’ physical performance and improve the effectiveness of on-field movements. The high-intensity nature of soccer involves rapid accelerations, changes of direction, jumps, powerful strikes, and maintaining balance against opponents, all of which require substantial muscular strength. The effective execution of these movements depends on an adequate level of muscle strength. Strength training contributes to the development of players’ performance as well as their explosive power, speed, and agility, while reducing muscle imbalances and minimizing injury risk. In particular, the balance of the hamstring and quadriceps muscles plays an important role in lower limb stability and injury prevention. When applied regularly and in a balanced manner, strength training can be considered beneficial for maintaining soccer players’ performance and supporting the health of their muscles and tendons.
