Synopsis

In this study, the concept of “memory places” is addressed within the context of the Social Studies curriculum. Based on the memory and collective memory theories of Pierre Nora and Maurice Halbwachs, the study examines their role in cultural transmission and the formation of national consciousness. Using the document analysis method, the study analyzes the use of memory places in the “Century of Türkiye Maarif Model” Social Studies Curriculum and evaluates their impact on cultural transmission. By examining the emphasis placed on cultural literacy and memory places within the program, suggestions for improvement are presented.
