Synopsis

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the free-time recreational activities of Georgians living in Ordu–Fatsa. It is aimed to investigate the activities carried out during leisure time in order to reflect cultural characteristics and the continuity of these characteristics from generation to generation.

Material and Method: The population of the research consists of Georgian people living in the Fatsa district of Ordu. The sample of the research consists of 20 people living there and selected by the simple random sampling method. The study was conducted using an interview form. In the interview form, the participants were asked about their demographic characteristics, daily working hours, how much they sleep, with whom they spend their remaining free time, whether this free time is sufficient, and whether their free-time activities reflect cultural characteristics. The results were obtained using the content analysis method. The distribution of demographic characteristics was determined using the SPSS 26 licensed statistical package program. Descriptive statistical methods (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, etc.) were primarily used in the analysis.

Results: According to the data obtained from the study, it was revealed how the participants spent their free time and to what extent they reflected their cultural characteristics.

Conclusion: According to the data obtained from the research, it has been observed that the activities carried out during Georgians’ free time have become standardized as a result of acculturation, and that ethnic culture is tried to be kept alive in every free moment of life. In this study, it has been determined that individuals participate more in passive recreational activities. When free-time evaluation situations are taken into consideration, it has been observed that there is not much difference between Georgian culture and other cultures, except for their own group activities.
