Synopsis

This study was conducted to examine teachers' perceptions of the concept of biotrafficking, their methods of obtaining information about biotrafficking and the adequacy levels of these methods. At the beginning of the study, a literature review on the subject was conducted and then a semi-structured interview form was prepared to be applied to the participants. In the preparation of this interview form, the opinions of academicians who are experts in the field of science education were taken. The purpose of obtaining expert opinions was to increase the validity and reliability of the study. Code names (E.1, K.1, etc.) were used instead of the real names of the teachers participating in the study. Qualitative research method was used in the study. The study group consisted of 14 teachers selected by convenience sampling method from purposive sampling methods. The participants' responses to the research questions were collected in 21 different codes. The findings of the research show that teachers have a certain level of knowledge about biotrafficking, but they do not have precise knowledge on some issues. In addition, teachers gave various opinions about the activities that can be done to combat biotrafficking and stated that education and awareness raising have a great effect on combating biotrafficking. Seminars, workshops and guidance materials for teachers can be prepared to combat biotrafficking. In addition, it is important to include this issue in the curriculum and to disseminate awareness raising activities. In the future, conducting studies with wider participation from different regions and using quantitative methods may increase the generalisability of the results obtained.
