Synopsis

The “Physical Education and Games” course is a fundamental learning area where the multidimensional structure of education that supports individual and social development is embodied. The course targets not only physical fitness but also motor skills, cognitive understanding, social-emotional development and healthy living habits simultaneously. Play-based activities strengthen the coordination of large and small muscles, attention and flexibility, problem-solving and emotional regulation; and lay the groundwork for lifelong activity by reducing the risks of a sedentary lifestyle through regular physical activity. In practice, lessons are conducted by classroom teachers; however, due to limited field experience, additional support may be required in terms of planning, security and evaluation. The program covers movement skills, concepts and tactics, as well as values such as cultural heritage, fair play, communication, cooperation and responsibility. The key to achieving the desired outcomes is a course design that goes beyond teacher-centered routines and is student-centered, safe, inclusive, and supported by formative assessment. This section includes various student-centered models, strategies and styles, as well as sample lesson implementation examples for each, and offers various recommendations for physical education and game lessons, especially for classroom teachers who are new to the profession.
