Synopsis

The wave of migration that started in 2015 and particularly affected Europe has changed all balances. However, European states have developed various plans by working on how to combat the irregular migration flows. Beginning in 2000, the migration policies, which had previously been positive, have changed in the opposite direction, particularly in Europe but also throughout the World.

The Netherlands, which has historically been both a destination and a source country for migration, has attempted to control this process, particularly since the end of labor migration in 1974. Especially since the 2000s, racist treatment of immigrants has emerged, all processes leading to citizenship have been made more difficult, and the issue of migration, which is a reality throughout the world, has begun to be treated as a security issue.

The world's object of the concept of security, research on the subject, and the importance attached to the concept occurred after World War II. The theory of securitization, proposed by the Copenhagen School, became particularly important as countries prepared themselves against any kind of threat.

Recently, interest in migration studies has increased, particularly with the rise of anti-immigrant sentiment and far-right parties in Europe. With the broadening of the definition of security after the Cold War, migration and immigrants have also become a priority security threat today. The research will be conducted using methods such as literature review, discourse analysis, and content analysis. It will focus on the securitization of migration in the Netherlands, an area not yet explored in Turkish literature, alongside the rise of the far right in the country. The study will reveal the connection between the concept of securitization and the far right, presenting an explanatory framework based on the example of the Netherlands. This study is important for understanding the scope of the concepts of security and securitization, which are frequently encountered today.
